The Next Stage Newsletter
March/April 2006

Dear reader,

My apologies for not being in touch sooner. I was personally challenged in March and early April with three of my immediate family members being rushed to hospital on separate occasions and one of my closest girlfriends having cancer surgery. Family always comes first and thankfully everyone is recovering well.

On a brighter note, you can access new online videos now by clicking here. The first clip demysifies breathing (02:25 min) and the second focuses on relaxation and release for better vocal production (03:56 min). These clips will only be available at this online link for a short time so if you haven't seen them yet view them at your earliest convenience.

Wishing you a fabulous month,
Deborah

    Out & About

We had a great time in Singapore on February 28th at our "Expressing You ~ 5 Easy Steps to Confident Communication" seminar organized by Partners Conference & Event Management.

    Q&A

Mr. Anwar Bakhari of Malaysia asked this month's question. (He's the handsome gentleman in the photo.)

Question ~ “What are some tips on how to master English Language and Communication especially non native speakers. Do native speakers like Americans still have to learn English?”

Answer ~Your level of learning depends on how well you want to speak English and your personal standards. For example, current US President George W. Bush is famous for his bad grammar, pronunciation, English mistakes and lack of tactful eloquence. He’s obviously a successful American that could enhance his reputation further by improving his English. Someone like Tony Blair is completely the opposite. His use of the English language is elegant, erudite and expressive and he is well respected as an excellent global communicator. So the choice is yours. You may not need or want to master English well enough to become an international leader. However, if you desire to be esteemed in the global community and would like to enjoy a reputation of being an extraordinary communicator here are some simple tips for you to follow.

    1. Improve the quality of your voice by doing simple warm up and tension release exercises as outlined in this month’s featured article, “How To Exercise Your Voice”.
    2. The exercises will also help your non-verbal communication. Click here to have a look at this free video to learn how to do an 8 minute quick body and voice warm up.
    3. Taking care of your body with consistent exercise and good nutrition makes a world of difference when it comes to how you feel. Your vital energy will radiate to those around you and positively impact the way others perceive you.
    4. Always prepare for your presentations. These 15 quick tips for planning & preparation will help guide you.
    5. Click this link to watch a short video to learn how to be more exciting when you speak and to bring your language to life one word at a time.
    6. The colours you wear and the way you dress can make a big difference. If you haven’t read the Volume 1, Issue 3 Newsletter feature article, “How To Use Color & Style to Enhance Your Charisma” click here to view it online.

Currently, English is still the international business language. However, if you implement the easy tips outlined above, you will dramatically improve your communication no matter what language you choose to speak – even your own native tongue.

Finally, pay attention to any challenges that you have with English articulation. If you know a native English speaker, ask them to correct your pronunciation. Or if you have any further questions, feel free to email me.

    On the Personal Side

Health is by far the greatest wealth!

My family knows this all too well with hospitals being our home away from home in March/April 2006.

Here is our 29 month old daughter pretending to be a doctor.
